Mrs. Augusta Lemke, wife of Herman Lemke, died at her home north of the village on Friday. She had been seriously ill but a short time and her death was quite unexpected. For several years her health had not been the best but there were no alarming symptoms. About a month ago or six weeks ago she went to Albany to visit her daughter, Mrs. Hodel, and was taken ill with a serious liver and stomach trouble. She recovered and came home a short time later. On Sunday, January 16, she was again taken ill and never rallied, passing away peacefully five days later.
The funeral is to be held tomorrow afternoon from the Lutheran church at 2:o'clock. Rev. Mr. Koehler will conduct the services. The interment is to take place in the cemetery of that church.
Mrs. Lemke was born in Prussia in 1844 and later came to this country with her parents. They settled in Wisconsin, and then to Lowell in August 1863 she was married to Mr. Lemke. They soon after came to this county and have resided north of the village ever since. Mrs. Lemke was a woman of many excellent qualities, beloved and respected by all who knew her. In her death she is widely mourned.
She is survived by her husband and nine children, They are Albert, George and Edward of this village; Henry and Emil of LaClede, Idaho, Mrs. Bertha Ellersick, Mrs. Lizzie Ellersick of LaClede, Idaho; Mrs. Minnie Holler of Akely and Mrs. Mary Hodel of Albany. His first wife Grace was born in 1639 and he probably married her in 1655-1656. It is evident that he travelled between Milford, Connecticut and Marbleheae, Massachusetts several times. He was in Marlbehead in 1676 and just previous to this date as the Records of the Courts of Essex Co., Mass., show. But on Sept. 17, 1687, when his will was drawn he was in Milford and he remained there until his death May 13, 1690. Mr Jacobus thinks that Grace, the first wife of Vincent I was the mother of Vincent, James & Agnes. In the will Vincent I was living with here as late as 1676. In fact Mrs. Sherman has noted the death of Grace Stilson in Marblehead in 1676 age 37 years... Grace the first wife of Vincent was probably about twenty or fourteen years younger that he and like wise Mary his second wife was undoubtedly some years younger. | Grace
